Peter Koch of Men’s Fitness took to the country roads of New York at Farm to Fork Fondo - Hudson Valley on June 11. He tackled the 87 mile gran fondo, an especially impressive feat considering the 90 degree weather.
Long since recovered from his day on the road, Koch writes “How to Conquer a Gran Fondo” in which he reflects on his own experience and gives tips on enjoying all that a fondo offers. “When we finally limped across the finish line—legs crushed but spirits soaring—we knew we hadn’t won the race, but that we’d earned every bite.”
The concept of gran fondos, long distance bike events that welcome riders of all levels, is a growing trend in the cycling industry. Farm to Fork Fondo’s pairing of cycling and local, gourmet food sets the series apart. Koch even goes as far as to call Farm to Fork Fondo “bike paradise.” In it’s third year of existence, this has been Farm to Fork Fondo’s busiest season yet. “Bike paradise” isn’t easy to pull off but the Farm to Fork Fondo crew is glad to see their hard work pay off.
