Inaugural Farm to Fork Fondo - Garden State caps 2018 season

Tyler Wren

We're very excited to announce another brand new event for 2018: Farm to Fork Fondo - Garden State on October 13 & 14 at the birthplace of the modern blueberry, Whitesbog Historic Village in Browns Mills, NJ!! The Garden State event will be the final stop of our 2018 Farm to Fork Fondo season and will highlight the unique agriculture in New Jersey's Pine Barrens, the most rural and undisturbed part of the state. The Pine Barrens, an International Biosphere Reserve, covers nearly one quarter of New Jersey and is home to scores of blueberry and cranberry farms, beautiful rural roads, and a strong farming heritage and community.

Whitesbog Village will host all the festivities including a Meet the Farmers Dinner on October 13 where participants can dine with the participating farm families from the Pine Barrens. Whitesbog will also host the start/finish for the ride on Sunday October 14, which will include the standard 4 Farm to Fork Fondo distances from an 8-10 mile Ramble Ride to a 70-90 mile Gran Fondo. Following the ride will be a catered farm-to-table barbecue and festival featuring live music and local vendors. Participants can expect flat to rolling terrain in the Pine Barrens.

Whitesbog Village is an early 20th-century company town and agricultural community. In the early 1900s, Whitesbog was the largest cranberry farm in New Jersey, and its founder, Joseph J. White, was a nationally recognized leader in the cranberry industry. Aside from its immense success with cranberries, Whitesbog is also where the highbush blueberry was first successfully cultivated.

Today, Whitesbog is part of Brendan T. Byrne State Forest and is listed on both the National and State Registers of Historic Sites.  Whitesbog includes the village and the surrounding 3,000 acres of cranberry bogs, blueberry fields, reservoirs, sugar sand roads, and Pine Barrens forests.

Stay tuned - in the coming weeks and months, we'll be revealing details on new course routes, partner farms, full weekend schedules, menus, and more!
